COMMENT ON WHAT YOU FEEL HAS BEEN THE BIGGEST PROBLEM OR BENEFIT SINCE OUR BOARD REQUESTED THE REPLACEMENT OF OUR GENERAL MANAGER. BLOG POLICY APPLIES.

In my opinion, it started with the vindictiveness of the 'six' who sent the letter, with the false accusations of the 3 new Directors, asking for their recall.
Then the mysteriously anonymous packet containing information on Director Peterson, (that has nothing to do with his performance as a Director for LIV) that was wrongfully distributed to the Directors by 'security' and an inividual.
Continuing with 'untrue stories' about individuals being spread throughout the park.
Moving on to the fact that nothing positive is being accomplished due to the childish and negative behavior of certain park residents wanting their way.

The problem was when Dodson and Sullivan backed out of their vote. The first big decision they had to make and they folded buckled at the knees. They had the power to get rid of the GM the BIGGEST PROBLEM the head of it all! The first to get thrown off the island because of poor judgements poor decision wrong use of words. For instance he said "there where managers on duty memorial day." Then goes on the say well we where on call the point is they still could not be reached. He changes his words all the time.
The problem was at the top. And its still on the top of the list. WHY DO WE WANT A FOX IN THE HEN HOUSE. Just the scent of one disrupted the order of things.
They had a chance to rid the problem and only made it worse.

Get the job done. There’s only one thing worse than firing an employee who’s likely to get emotional, angry or violent, and that’s not firing them. Holding onto an employee who’s not performing or wreaking havoc with your business poisons your workplace in two ways: It allows the harmful behavior to continue, and it sends signals to other employees that they can get away with similar behavior.

Firing an employee is tough, and there’s no guarantee you won’t be sued no matter what you do, but if it has to be done, you do both yourself and your business a great disservice by putting off the inevitable.

Reassign the terminated employee’s job duties promptly. As soon as the employee leaves the premises, call your other employees together, tell them that the employee is no longer working for the company (but avoid giving details), and reassign their duties to other employees. That will prevent a “rumor mill” from starting and will inoculate the employees against any negative phone calls or e-mails they may receive from the terminated employee.

I love the internet!

From my point of view things have only gotten worse around our village since the BOD wanted to replace the GM.

For the past 3 years or so the upkeep of the village, pools,
golf course, yards, streets etc etc has gone down hill. Now we have the SGG (Sour Grapes Gang) adding to the problems.

Please BOD replace the GM ASAP, which I guess will be the August meeting. All the committees in the world won’t solve the problems until the GM is gone.

Our village needs to get back to the business of living and healing.

It's really sad that the GM has not been doing his job, keeping others from doing their jobs, and that previous BOD's allowed this to happen.

Kudos Blogmaster on another GREAT picture! Thought the ducks were my fav, but now I'm not sure!

I'm sure that many of us out here in "PC Land" really appreciate the job you are doing. It is nice to have a forum so that people can give their opinions, both pro and con, on what is happening at LIV.

Keep up the good work Joey!!

Mr Blog Master Sir or blog readers can you please tell us about the petitions and the out come? Where they stand as far as #'s
I heard Rita Priest sent out some other petitions in favor of keeping GM. I never got one.
What happened to the first ones?
Thank you.
I removed my stamp and used it to send in my dues.

The above contributor should read the comments on ALL the places in this Blog re: Ms. SGG and her buttonholing!

Anonymous said...

OMG! I just spoke with a friend up North, Rita Priest is calling people asking them to change their vote. What next?

Anonymous said...

my friends also in the park was asked to change their vote. Rita Priest went to their house with
bunches of papers. They where very polite to her they didnt want to be.
Ms Priest is a big surprise to many people We all have to be nice to each other. But it is really hard to be nice to her and her entourage. But a nod and smile is a good thing.
I guess we got to do what we got to do!

The above comment just about sums it up. It is extremely hard to be nice to Rita Priest. I can see sort of, in a childish way, why she would be upset at losing the BOD election, Bud Sperry too. What makes no sense to myself and many, many others is the bitterness and hatefulness.

This group of people, The SGG aren't doing a darn thing to help any of the problems our Village has. These individuals are close knit and run in a pack, so to speak. I believe they do not like the fact that "younger baby boomers" are moving into LIV. The "baby boomers" are now running for the board and see things differently than some of the older residents do...this does not make anyone wrong or right. It is simply a new way to look and approach things in our village.

The best and most tactful way we can probably handle Rita Prest et al is to poilitely tell them we aren't intrested, to go away or just plan ignore them if all else fails.

While they are mean and hateful they are simply making fools out of themselves.

Anonymous said...

Do all "baby boomers" have the same democratically slanted views? I don't think so. I think it's just the ones that read and post on this blog!

Anonymous said...

I think we hit a nerve! Someone else in a post said the same thing.older people don't like change. And that's alright but you cant act like this. You cant degrade a board member or anyone else for that fact R.P. by investigating them and announcing their records to the public. And thinking this is what we are suppose to do when people are running for the board ! Even if they are public record.
Change is inevitable.. You know for $9.99 you can investigate anyone on the Internet Life sucks and then you die! Get over it already! GEZZZZ!
Please go away.. and take GM with you! Let us improve ourselves.

The badgering and the lies from Rita Priest to residents to get votes is ridiculous. Isn't it sad she has nothing better to do but 'solicit' for votes. Too bad she can't redirect her focus to improve the park. She is creating unnecessary drama.

The "straw polls" that are being taken on this site are and certainly should be eye opening to all! We seem to feel that a new GM is needed, certain BOD members should wade away and the evaluation is a total joke....just to name a few things.

Thanks again Joey for running this site. It lets those of us who can't be at LIV all the time feel like we know what is going on.

Anonymous said...

Not all young people share those views, either!

I, too, appreciate this page but we must all realize that it does not represent the views of the majority.

Anonymous said...

This blog may represent more people than anyone realizes.

Anonymous said...

The BOD actions with respect to the GM are vindictive and self serving for their private agenda. We don't need that kind of representation in our Village.

Anonymous said...

I for one am grateful that we have the four new BODs. Their actions are NOT vindictive nor are they self serving. We need people on the BOD who will not accept inconsistent stories from the GM and certain other BOD members.

Enough is enough! We need new management, either another GM or a City Manager and we need it NOW.
This nonsense from the SGG can't go on.

Please let us support the BOD that were elected in March. LIV needs to get back to the business of living.

Anonymous said...

I too am grateful for the new members of the BOD. I appreciate their willingness to ask questions and expect truthful answers from the GM and staff. It's time LIV BOD get away from being a 'Rubber Stamp' Board and doing whatever the GM suggests and believe everything he says to be the truth.
Speaking of vindictive how about the SGG and their actions????

Anonymous said...

I agree with the last 2 comments. I am so greatful for our 4 new board members. They are willing to stick their necks out and demand answers from the Gm. This rubber stamp idea never works. Please get on with the business at hand.

I think I am in a minority - I would like to keep the GM and the board members. I think Larry is doing a very good job. I think the board needs to be left to learn to work together as a team - and once that happens, maybe this place will resemble the wonderful island retreat it is!

Anonymous said...

Hey up there you sound very sincere and your right to think your in the minority. And yes the board has to learn to get along. To much has happened to much has been said. We are way to old to get along. This park has no laws and to many laws, if you get my drift.
The past three years the place has gone downhill. We had a lacked board and a GM who did not do general upkeep. He only managed to created more problems and spent money on things that could have waited and didn't save for the things that mattered. The village has been like a volcano waiting to erupted for a few years now. Well it has and its not pretty. We have to open our eyes. The GM is not a bad man he's just not a manager. Live in peace and pass the torch GM. I know its not a GRAND exit and it might be a little embarrassing but its for the good of the village.

Well, I guess we have struck a nerve. This weekend, we received a threatening phone call from a woman who identified herself as Catherine DeMalade. She threatened our well-being and our safety. By reverse checking of the phone number, (956) 943-4777, we verified that the call came from the home of Larry DeMalade. (If you are wanting to know what all of this is about, please look in the "My Personal Observation" section of this blog...toward the end of the comments.)

Later that evening, Ken placed a call to our Board President, Dennis Sullivan, and asked him to look into this and arrange a meeting, if necessary, to iron out any problems between us and Long Island Village and the DeMalade family.

We have no personal animosity toward the DeMalade family, we just feel that Larry is not qualified to perform his job adequately and we have asked ARAMARK to replace him.

Cheryl if you wouldn't mind sharing the words used by CD for you to think it was (threatening)?
It leaves my mind to wonder. I don't think you would be interested in my interpretation of the word.
Announcing herself as the caller would only suggest that she might have been giving you a piece of mind. She is known for that. She calls and complains to her friends and calls others to pick their brains. She is an orchestra of trouble. To me she does her husband harm. If she only knew we see her coming. And if she's reading this BLOG. Someone will be getting a phone call. It wont be me. I'm busy!
So Cheryl can you share? It will probably be your word to hers. But anyone who knows CD will understand.

Ken Vaughan says:

As a professional psychologist, I am well-trained in the "he said/she said" verbatum, and recording such conversations for further use. Whenever the woman called, she said, "We're going to get even with you." And then I said, "You must want to talk to my wife." And then I handed the phone to Cheryl.

Cheryl Vaughan says:

After Ken handed me the phone, a voice said, "This is Catherine. We are going to sue you for everything you've got for all these malicious lies you are telling..." At that point, I interrupted her tirade and asked, "Who IS this?" (The only Catherine I know is in Oklahoma and she wouldn't be threatening to sue me!) When the caller identified herself as Catherine DeMalade, I hung up the phone.

The definition of THREATENING according to Webster's is: 1. To express a threat against. 2. To service as a threat to endanger. 3. To give signs or warning. 4. To indicate danger or harm.

It will probably be your word to hers. But anyone who knows CD will understand.

August 26, 2008 9:17:00 AM

Cheryl the reason I stated that is because if you don't have someone with you when speaking to either GM or CD they will deny everything.
Yes that sounds like something CD would do. You must admit they are under a lot of pressure. I'm sure none of us would want to be in the position they're in. I can also see them wanting to plant their feet, hunker in and take a stand. They truly believe in what their doing. Just like we do.
She is a loyal wife.Sometimes its difficult for me not to sympathize with them. After all we tend to side with the underdog. All in all that's not what's needed to operate a multi million $$$$$ business. It takes team work from all involved. WE DONT HAVE THAT!
We have 2 threatening phones calls, airing someones dirty laundry, people sending out petitions laden with lies not just one petition but two. Dividing friends and neighbors.. The board created all of this.. WHATS NEXT!
Thanks for sharing Cheryl and Ken

Anonymous said...

Do Not Blame the Board for this chaos. It was the people who put together those lies and the petition/ballot/proxy after
the current BOD had agreed to take time to evaluate the GM which is something the past BOD's hadn't done.

The buck stops at the boards table! Not the past board and not Rita Priest...The SGG are the children having a temper tantrum.
The board does not show discipline.

Now if Don Halback our X president was in charge... There would be NO disruptions from that SGG.. They would have been ask to leave!
That all came with experiance granted.
