We need to do away with the rental services that we offer as a Village.
As the former owner of a Real Estate firm and current owner of vacation properties I could see that our LIV rental office was a disaster.
This is not political as I did'nt get involved in politics but we can't continue sustain such losses.
I found it very hard to deal with our rental office staff. All nice people but not at all savy in the rental game to capture the rental share that we deserve.
Please consider some realtors to take over for a fee paid to us instead of all of us footing the loss.
I hope the new website is a sucess and it brings in new people and $ $$$ to LIV.

Hello Scott,
They tried to do away with the Rental dept. some years back but Pat Burke would have none of it. She lobbied this saying that it would cost our Village $70,000 or more if we were to close it. She convinced a majority of the Board into believing it. Hard to imagine that shutting down an annual $30,000 loser would cost you over double every year. That's what she said along with her lawyer double talk to keep it and costing every owner in the Village to provide so a few others can make a profit. She even classified it as an important amenity.

About 10 years ago or so, a board member went to realtors and others trying to get them to run the rental program No one would take it because of all the private rentals in the park. Now if you can figure out a way to do away with those, some agency would probably be glad to take it over.

Somebody better find and post the true owner(s) information on PD's abode, and do it soon or it is going to break us!! This is not Washington D.C., yet!

I'm sure if you could come in with a realtor willing to take over the rentals, it would be welcomed with open arms. Also I think the figures for the losses to the rental center are not accurate. I believe there have been years it has made money. What do you expect with it having to be closed a month during sewer problems and last year because of the hurricane.

I would buy that if you could give me the reasons for losing close to the same money and at times more the five previous years before the sewer and hurricane?

Please explain why we need a login for the LIV web page. Is there something in it that we don't want people to see?

Anonymous said...

You do not have to log into the LIV general web site, but to see village related items only such as a copy of the minutes, not the abbreviated ones in the newsletter.

Anonymous said...

re why need a login...the web site says owners will be able to access forms and board minutes etc. These are not needed by outsiders, so should be "owners only" access.

I know at least three former owners that like to keep up with the village. And what about the renters. Shouldn't they be able to read about things that effect them. Looks to me like the web page is going to force non-owners to get all their information from this blog.

former owners are just that, former!! renters have no say or business saying anything about our affairs. info on this blog is rumor and hearsay, so what's your point?

RE: former owners are just that, former!!

I disagree with you about the renters. Many become owners when they are informed about the lovely affairs that go on in our Village.
I read nothing in "Wishing" comments that the renters should have a SAY in LIV's business, just to be informed. As for the this horse hoowey about this blog being all rumor and hearsay, I doubt you would recognize a fact if it bit you. It makes me believe you've been rubbing elbows too long with these, what do you call them, sour grapes groupees? They know what rumor and hearsay is because thay have it down pat.

I have a technical question about "logging on" to the website for information. If the password is our address, what user name are we supposed to use? (Maybe I am overlooking something?) Please help!

Anonymous said...

Helga, the website is still not working properly yet. My understanding is that the steps of what to do will be on the website when they get it 100%. Hope that helps.

Thank you! Just anxious.

Don't forget that you have to register and be "approved before you can log into the LIV web page. Sure hope I pass.

AMEN! I'm still waiting on my approval!

Anonymous said...

re waiting: are you retired?

Anonymous said...

I am waiting for approval also. Has anyone been approved yet?

Anonymous said...

There has been some problems pertaining to the login. They will try to get it straightened out by tomorrow.

Anonymous said...

No approval YET. It has been a few days. Most sites send the acknowledgement before you can even get to your email.

So far, from what I have seen, I am very disappointed in this new and IMPROVED site.

Anyone else feeling the same ???

Give it a chance, it's been over four years and we still don't have the GM working right.

I have to admit that my confidence in the person who has "designed" and set up our new website is dropping. Especially if it is the same person who has "designed" the mess of a newsletter we now have. And what about the costs of both? All board members need to be questioning this. You were voted in to represent us, not just go with the flow!

I got logged in to Owners section of the web site finally, after reading the web site update on this blog (good thing we have this blog to stay informed!)

Although I like the look and feel of the new web site, I'm very disappointed that it doesn't have a Message Board" feature like a lot web sites, where everyone can post and create new topics or replies. Very disappointing for $2000 (or more?)web site!

I have tried even with the new instruction and can't get into the site. Any help will be appreciated.

after you click owners login and go to the user log in, here is an example.

user name
591 star fish

password
villager

I had to separate star and fish for it to work because that's how it appears in the owners directory
hope that helps

Thanks! That will do it Joe. This is one small step towards change.
The site is not that bad for the first time.
I am excited about the thought of veiwing meetings online.

Thank you for your continued efforts to kepp us informed!

Also, when you type in your user name, do not put drive, circle, etc. Just the number and street name without the drive, circle, etc., separated by spaces. I was able to log on, look around, change my password. It will be nice to be able to print out all those rules, by-laws, etc! And having all the board member's e-mail addresses so handy is nice, as well.

Logging in was not that hard. I followed the instructions, got in, and was able to change my password. I think it looks great. As far as the message board, I think that would be great too. Give them time. However, if the message board starts looking anything like the nastiness on this blog, I hope they don't have one. This blog can be a great source of information. That's why I check in. Unfortunately I don't check in as often anymore because it seems to be just a few people looking for a fight. There is no constructive criticism, just a "bring it on" mentality. Mean, Nasty, Bitter - those are the words that come to mind. Sorry, Joey. Your blog was/is a great idea. Too bad it now seems to just want to hurt and tear down other people. There are many ways we can help to make our village better, but it entails actually getting off our butts and doing something instead of just badmouthing other people. Think about it.

First time commenting said...

I thought about it and feel you're entitled to your opinion. Mine is that people have gotten off their butts and tried to do something like making our now retired GM accountable for his actions and fabrications. For those efforts they received personal attacks on their character, their past, and were subjected to countless rumors and lies. A few were of course sued. No, I don't believe this blog is all nastiness as you put it. If you want to look, there are plenty of positive comments and criticisms without a bring it on content. It's just what your view happens to be on each criticism and how you define constructive. Think about it.

It appears, as of Saturday 6/6, that there are 120, +or-, owners who still cannot log on to the website. Hope we are NOT paying by the hour!?!

Anonymous said...

Yipee! 6/8 and we are ALL on board, just be sure to use:
sc and not SC as it is in the book, space after sc, lot number, and both words in street name.
