A TIDBIT Posted 6/13/08

The subject of changing to a licensed security is currently being addressed by the board. It appears the opposition towards change in our existing Aramark ran unlicensed gatekeeper staff has come from the general manager’s supporters? These supporters have conveyed that our Village may have legal issues about breaking this Aramark contract without having good enough reasons, plus they say all we get with a licensed security company is a bigger bill.

Since only a select few may know for sure that our Village only spends $187,660 for our current concierge’s service, how can we know which is a bigger bill? Those summer renters that will run roughshod through our Village because our caretakers will not, because now they cannot, enforce rule policies. Are we able to know after that which the bigger bill is? It won’t be long before we are sued due to someone letting their guard down because of our park creating this security illusion and a jury hears cost was the only concern our Village had. I bet then we’ll know which the bigger bill is. Would you like to give your opinion?

As for breaking the Aramark contract, I was told there is no provision that says we have to give a reason. Even if there is a provision about contract termination, do you think that Aramark would really get upset for cancelling it? Our general manager has repeatedly stated that Aramark is only making $6000 a year off of this. They should be delighted to have this potential liability monkey off their back. Quite frankly, should not we, the owners, be the ones upset for our general manager and Aramark giving our Village a 14 month security license run-a-round that seems to have put us in this situation. Did they do what they originally said they would do for our Village? Should not we be the ones upset for signing this unlicensed doorkeeper contract that was to give our Village not only the same provisions we had before, but even more for less money? Did we get what they said we were to receive?
What do you think?

We have had licensed security for many summers in the village and the summer renters have run roughshod through our Village because our licensed "Security" did not and could not enforce rules and policies.

Despite the above comment, licensed security did do a good job. The present "security" didn't start coming out of their "box" until recently when the pressure was on the GM.

Why were there constantly complaints in coffee's about security in those days? I guess you and I don't live in the same place. I think we have the best patrol now that we have had in years. Why pay more for a title?

What security?? I witnessed an incident that allowed a car full of teenaged kids come into the park without a sticker or pass. When I questioned the guard shack I was told one of the girls parents owned a place at LIV and they were just taking her home when in fact they all went to the pool for a swim. The guard who let them in said he knew her. Well----I think that a rule is a rule. My friends have a hard time getting in when I let them know they are coming.I have no problem letting them in as long as they play by the rules. What makes this a special case? Security not doing their job!!!

Security in LIV is a mental illusion. There is no way to patrol the waterways or every resident. If someone has a security issue, have a private security system installed. Owners do not need additional expenses.

Security at LIV is much more than just patrolling the area. The biggest problems come during the spring/summer rental season, after the “Winter Texans” have left.

Last summer there were kids, and yes some adults, acting inappropriately on the golf course and causing damage to it. These actions took the form of kids running all over the greens, “playing” golf and causing
grass and dirt to fly. Adults running their golf carts from their
rental upon the course and across the greens. This season we have
had renters riding bikes, not only on the new cart trail, but on the
course itself. One Amark manager even used his cart without a
handicap flag (this was last year)…the GM is NOT handicapped.

In each case I called security and was told “there is nothing we can do” or “what do you want me to do, that isn’t my job”. Some of my neighbors also called. Our so called “security” finally came out once.

What about the renters who have loud parties, even “keggers”?? This happened to me around the end of May of 2008. “Security” said “well we can’t do anything” and “ I can’t leave the gate” and “our coming out won’t help”. I finally talked to the young men myself (it was about 11:00pm). I am really too deep into my golden years to have to do that.

Maybe this will help explain to the person who made the previous
comment. Patrolling is just a small part of what should be done
security wise at LIV. What I stated above is only a small part of what has happened in our village and that I saw. We need to make LIV a better and safer place to live. Yes, it will cost more, but I for one will feel better (and so will many, many others).

Despite what certain BOD members say and what the GM will loudly proclaim, the "gate keepers" really don't do much to help the residents of LIV.

Why are we not SUING Aramark over this issue, why renewal of their contract is even a consideration is ONLY because Board members see them as the "deeper pockets" in a lawsuit. They have cost us a small fortune in overbilling and under serving and wasted hours of service by residents as we bicker and debate how to do what a competent management company would know how to do. I hope the Village is ripe for real change in how we manage our homeland. A well searched manager combined with contracted services for lawncare, bookkeeping, etc. is worth taking a look at.Think of all the useless waste of $ for uniform changes and cleaning, security that can't "secure",and a long list of "kingdom building" tactics.

This issue is so insane it hardly deserves comment. We have no Security. We have no "gate keepers" being as I see un-tagged cars coming and going all the time. We no longer live in a true "gated" community...it is only an illusion. If we really want one (gated community) then hire REAL security officers who will properly screen, maintain control, and really secure our premises. PERIOD!

I totally agree with the above comment! Our current "security" has been totally misrepersented by the GM and Director Burke. We need proper licensed security....not more hot air!
